SISD PACKAGE 3 AUXILIARY GYMS

This project consisted of ground-up construction of 5 auxiliary gyms totaling nearly 22,000 square feet at 5 separate campuses for the Socorro Independent School District. These gyms serve nearly 3000 children in grades K-5.   Each project location was unique and required in-depth planning and coordination with the School District and School Staff to ensure that normal daily activities and operations were not negatively impacted. This project was scheduled aggressively with the intent of exceeding the District’s expectations for project duration and required clear and concise communication and coordination with each trade involved to ensure the expedited schedule was met. Each auxiliary gym’s main superstructure was constructed of split-faced CMU blocks and structural steel. Including complete interior finishes package that included hollow metal doors and frames, flush wood doors, overhead coiling doors, gymnasium equipment, aluminum storefront and glazing, custom translucent panel assemblies, architectural aluminum louvers, resilient tile, acoustical wall treatments, and resilient sheet gym flooring. The gyms were equipped with public address and fire detection systems. The mechanical system consisted of medium-sized rooftop units, complete with DDC controls. The site work included new fire lane additions, storm drainage, ponds, fire hydrants, sidewalks, steel and CMU canopy structures, and various regional themed landscape features.
